People interested in pursuing courses in travel should have a high school diploma. There are a number of training schools and vocational institutions that offer tailor made courses to be a travel agent. You can either enroll onto these institutions or take up a proper curriculum in college.
College education is very extensive and can contain courses pertaining to geography, computers and history. They are designed to provide in-depth knowledge about travel and tourism. Vocational courses are of much shorter duration and typically last up to four months. In addition to certificate of course completion, aspiring travel agents must have computer knowledge and must be comfortable with working on them. Since most of the travel deals happen over internet, in-depth knowledge of how to use internet for tasks like extracting information, book tickets and finalize travel plans are very important. Travel agents should also be capable of handling multiple customers efficiently and should be able to maintain the records of reservations and travel details of each and every customer.
