Anatomy of an employer tuition assistance program

Most employers are aware of the significance of education. They know that education plays a major part in the efficient functioning of their employees and is highly productive. Thus they are very keen to assist their employees to pursue various educational programs. If a particular employment does not include any such program, an employee can persuade the employer to assist by citing the importance of that educational program to your job.

The employer tuition assistance program is self-centered in nature as the employer wants his employees to acquire more knowledge by studying in a particular field that will enhance their working skills and productivity. When an employee is supported monetarily by his employer for his education, it is unlikely that he will switch loyalties to some other gainful employment.

There are several types of tuition assistance programs in offer that are directly related to the working of a particular employee. While involving employees in such programs they also impose regulations that restrict the employees from leaving the company for a certain period of time. These educational programs are mostly designed for the benefit of the employer and no employer would wish his employees to utilize it get themselves better paying jobs or other employers to benefit from the education assisted by them. Normally companies assist their employees only in courses that are related to their job, but some time they may offer for a full time degree course. There programs are normally run by the HRD of a particular company and comes as a part of a package benefiting the employees. An employer sometime can also include educational programs related to the future carrier prospects of a particular employee whom they think will benefit the company largely. An employee who receives tuition assistance can be exempted from tax cut for $5, 250 a year.

Part time jobs also sometime offer tuition reimbursement to their employees but in a limited way.  There are few establishments that offer assistance ranging from a $1000 to $2000 yearly. This assistance is usually given as additional benefits to the employees and an employee has to work for a stipulated period of time in that particular establishment to qualify to this benefit.  Normally there are no restrictions on the type of course an employee undertake.

Some big companies in partnership with colleges impart various educational and training programs to their employees. These types of educational or training programs require the faculty of the educational institution concerned to visit the company premises to train or tutor the employees. This program also allows an employee to enroll in a particular university independently.

You must visit the HRD of the company he is employed to know more about the existing tuition assistance or business college program and discuss various options available to you. Suppose an employment do not have any such program in force, and then you should persuade the employers to create one suitable for you. This can be done by presenting the type of course you wish to take and quoting various benefits the company stands to gain by that program.
