The old school large lecture sessions are now increasingly giving way to an ultracompetitive high-tech problem solving culture in college engineering programs. This process of shifting towards a student centered learning procedure has been crucial in attracting and retaining a greater percentage of engineering students, especially from women and underrepresented minority communities who actually account for 18% and 13% of the total number of graduate engineers.
