Bing is one of the major search engines used today and one of its applications is making a very impressive name. This said engine has a lot of applications to be used but with its effort to be more efficient and be as competitive as the other known major search engines, it has launched an applications competition.
Bing launched a competition called Queen of bing maps and Ricky Brunditt submitted an entry called the ‘The Taxi fare calculate. This is an application that can be used to calculate the taxi fare rate between two route locations. The Taxi fare calculates is an application which is already available at Bing Maps site.
The application is so easy to use. Just choose a location and type in 2 different routes and The Taxi fare calculates will provide you the nearest route and an estimated fare which is based on the normal local fare rate on the location. The very benefit of this application is it can help motorists who would like to save few bucks by having a comparison of the routes. This way you already have an idea how much you’d be spending on a trip. By-the-mile cost, time and pick-up charges are also factors used to estimate the taxi fare.
Microsoft, which spearheaded the contest, is actually considering the Taxi fare calculate for the Queen of bing maps award. The panel of judges for the said competition includes Greg Sterling of Search Engine Land, Josh Lowensohn from CNET and Joe Francica of Directions. August 20 is the announcement of the contest winner through Bing’s blog section.
Other candidates that are worth checking on are the Ricky Data Viewer, Apo-AT, Random Location, Festival de theatre and GeoSales Tax; all actually can be now used through Bing Maps. GeoSales Tax provides maps and displays the tax rate on sales all over the United States while Ricky Data Viewer allows the user to upload pre-made files with map shapes but the Taxi fare calculate is seen to be of great winning potential which even the major search engine, Google does not at this time provide.
Apparently, Microsoft is taking ample time to figure out how human eyes can exactly process the zooming in and out of the maps and has actually made some enhancements into the Silverlight maps.
Mapquest and the Google Maps are two of the major applications which are real competitive and launching such contest is Microsoft’s way of developing Bing Map applications. The competition is really tough especially trying to win over the champions but like The Taxi fare calculates, Tour de France application has future.
Just few days from now, the greatest of all applications will be announced and each and every Bing fanatic is excited with the announcement.
