Master of Science in Biotechnology Studies

The Master of Science in Biotechnology Studies with a focus on Biosecurity and Biodefense is a program offered by the University of Maryland University College (UMUC), with the intention of exposing students to the advances and developments that are currently witnessed in the biotechnology industry. Generally, biotechnology encompasses the pure biological sciences such as genetics, microbiology, biochemistry, embryology, and cell biology. Students of the Master of Science in Biotechnology -Biosecurity and Biodefense of the UMUC can expect to learn all of these, in the context of biosecurity and biodefense of bioterrorism. This specialization was developed as a response to the growing threats to public health, with the goal of seeking solutions to epidemics and/or pandemics.
There is a current need for biotechnologists with exemplary research skills and cognitive abilities. UMUC, with its staff of outstanding and accomplished biotechnology researchers, professors and instructors, assures students of complete preparation, even with what little background they have in biotechnology.
