Early childhood education is important as it prepares an individual for more rigorous and demanding roles and tasks in higher education. Early childhood education professionals teach young children important skill sets and values that will aid them later on in life.

The outlook for employment for early childhood education professionals is bright and promising. As parents work longer hours, young children will have to be put in secure venues where their actions can be supervised and where they will be able to learn helpful and useful skills, thus the need for more preschool and kindergarten teachers.

Salaries also vary and would depend on several factors such as type of learning institution and location. According to a 2007 survey sponsored by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, preschool teachers on the average earn an annual income of $47,750. For the same period, kindergarten teachers had a median annual wage of $50,040.
