Erikson Institute was established in 1966 as a private, non-profit educational institution for higher education. The concentration of the institute had been on child development. The young children of present times face more challenges than ever before due to the changing cultural values. The vision of the institute is to prepare adults to work with the young children in a knowledgeable manner, with full understanding and awareness of the characteristics and aspirations of the youngsters. Towards this purpose, the Erikson Institute offers graduate programs, master degrees, and a doctoral program. The institute is accredited with the North Central Association of the Commission on Higher Learning.

Educational Programs of Erikson Institute

The Erikson Institute offers 3 certificate programs that are meant only for providing the necessary knowledge to persons interested in the field of child development. These certificate programs are not useful for a degree program of the Erikson Institute. These programs are designed as 18 credit hour programs that can be completed within a maximum period of 2 years, with one or two courses in each semester.

The master programs of the Erikson Institute constitute 3 master degree programs and one dual master degree program. The programs offer specialization in particular fields in child development through comprehensive course work, reflective hands-on practice, and real world relationship framework. The doctoral program in child development had been designed as a 42 credit hours program. This program is conducted in partnership with the Graduate School Loyola University Chicago. The program contains course work that had to be done at both the institutions but the final Ph.D. is conferred by the Loyola University.

Erikson Institute Online Education

The online programs of the Erikson Institute include four graduate level courses that had been drawn from the certificate programs of the Irving B. Harris infant specialist programs. Further, the institute offers an online master degree program as a 2-year, 31 credit hour program. The courses had been built for direct delivery to the desktops of the students, with rigorous, time-tested, and effective curriculum that is followed at the campus of the institute. These programs possess the following unique features.

The online programs are open not only to US residents but to all international students. The semesters start in late August and early January. Transfer credits are not accepted and the students are expected to complete all the coursework of the Erikson Institute online programs. However, qualifying students are eligible to avail the Federal Stafford loans and Graduate PLUS loans by completing the formalities of the FAFSA regulations.
