Lewis University
Lewis University is considered a Lassallian and Roman Catholic private Institute situated in Romeoville in Illinois. The university was established in 1932 by the Arch Bishop of Chicago - Bishop Bernard J. Sheil. It was then christened as 'The Holy Name Technical School' later was changed to Lewis Holy Name Technical School in 1934, after Frank J Lewis who provided funds to the institute. In 1940 it was again renamed to Lewis School of Aeronautic. During the World War II - the premises was given to the US navy as a training place, in 1944 regular classes were continued. The university also began to include arts and sciences to its courses. In 1951 it was again renamed to Lewis College of Science and Technology, and finally in 1973 it was changed from Lewis College to Lewis University.
Courses
The University now has courses such as Arts and Science, Education, Business, Professional and Continuing Education, also Nursing and Health. It has a total strength of more than 5,000 students. It also has more than 70 undergraduate courses and majors, 20 graduate programs, and online programs too.
Accreditation
Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, the university is also a member in the North Central Association. The Nursing and Health Programs accredited by the State of Illinois Department of Professional Regulation. All graduate and undergraduate programs accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
Online courses
Lewis University provides online degree programs for those who are career oriented yet desire to complete their academics. To name a few of the programs that are offered online: Bachelor of Arts in Fire Service Administration, Master of Science in Information Security, Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership, and Master of Science in Public Safety Administration. Their syllabus provides theory and practical modules, with experienced faculty members to assist students when needs. Courses are also flexible to suit the students' needs and complete their programs at the earliest.
Student Life
The Lewis University has a student government, for its ever increasing number of student each successive year. The university is also a part of the NCAA Division, belonging to the Great Lakes Valley Conference and Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association. They also have a Rugby team. The university also prides in being the best in its aviation program, with its own on campus airport.
Accolades
Lewis University considered one of the best colleges in the region of Illinois, by the Princeton Review and the U.S News and World Report. It was also called the 'Best Midwestern College' by the Princeton Review.
