Tidewater Community College was founded under the Virginia Community College System in 1968, and has since then retained its standing as the second largest community college under the Virginia Community College System and the 37th largest in the United States. The Tidewater Community College mainly serves the local students from the South Hampton roads region with campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Virginia Beach, Old Towne, and Portsmouth. 45% of the college going students in all of Virginia studied at Tidewater Community College.
