What is the job description of marine engineers?

Marine engineers design and maintain the equipment used on the sea like ships, submarines and vessels. They take care of the proper functioning of the machinery used for sailing. Their work may include working closely with the marine architects who build the ship, they could be the maintenance crew, who ensure the proper functioning of ship or they could be the quality inspectors who make sure that the quality of the ship adheres to the set standards. Marine engineers are often a part of the maintenance team on board and will require spending long time in sailing.
